Reflective Modulators

The reflective modulator is a key device for the C3PO project as it is the main building block for the development of transceivers for IPoDWDM transport networks and WDM-PONs.

Specifically, in the frames of C3PO project, the following reflective modulators will be designed and developed:

Reflective Electro-absorption modulator integrated with Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (REAM/SOA)

  • Indium Phosphide monolithic integration of REAM with SOA
  • Increased chip capacity through integration of InP arrays on a single photonic chip
  • Operational speed exceeding 28 Gb/s
  • Capability for operation without any cooling (coolerless)
  • Wavelength-independent operation (colourless)
  • Suitable for system integration into next generation WDM linecard products applicable to IPoDWDM transport networks
  • Suitable for system integration into WDM-PON OLT systems
  • Potential for low-cost and volume manufacturing  using "HyBoard" hybrid integration platform of CIP Technologies

Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (RSOA)

  • Indium Phosphide monolithic integration
  • Operational speed exceeding 1Gb/s
  • Capability for operation without any cooling (coolerless)
  • Wavelength independent operation (colourless)
  • Suitable for system integration into new customer premises equipment (CPE) in next generation WDM-PONs
